COOLGARDIE PHASE CHANGE CHILLER PACK
Phase Change Products Pty Ltd (PCP) has introduced a product for the retail market. The Coolgardie Phase Change Chiller Pack. The Coolgardie PCCP is being sold at $15.00 per Pack inclusive of GST plus freight if outside the Perth metropolitan area
(recommended 2 Packs for 26 litre Esky size).
The Coolgardie PCCP is so named because of its
similarities to the old fashioned Coolgardie Safe which applied the basic principle of heat transfer
during evaporation of water. PCP develops and manufactures Phase Change Material (PCM), a
substance that melts and freezes at a specific temperature and is capable of absorbing, releasing and
storing large amounts of energy (latent heat) as the substance changes phase from a solid to liquid
or liquid to solid. As water / ice does at 0° celcius. PCP has developed its PCMs to freeze/melt at
different temperatures, allowing them to maintain constant temperature in the refrigerated or
frozen range that we require.
As well as above zero temperature PCMs, PCP has developed PCM that freeze/melt at a range of
temperatures including 0°celcius, -2°celcius, -7°celcius, -11°celcius, -16°celcius and -21°celcius. For
the Coolgardie Phase Change Chiller Pack we have selected a freezing point of -7°celcius as the
optimum temperature for keeping drinks at their coldest required temperature and maintaining
food cool and fresh. The Coolgardie PCCP can be used in an Esky or similar container as a
replacement for ice or in conjunction with ice to keep the ice frozen for up to 50% longer than ice on
its own.
As well as keeping drinks cooler for longer the benefits of the Coolgardie Phase Change Chiller Pack
include:
- Easily stored when not in use;
- Can lay flat next to or underneath food and drink;
- Reusable – paid off after several uses compared to the price of ice;
- Can be recharged overnight in a standard refrigerator freezer;
- At -7° celcius it keeps contents colder than ice and/or standard ice packs;

It is the active ingredient of the PCM that separate the Coolgardie Phase Change Chiller Pack from ice and other ice substitutes.
The number of Packs used should be based on the contents and size of the container to be cooled. Indicatively two Coolgardie PCCPs for a 25 litre container with pre chilled contents. It becomes very economical over multiple uses.
You would generally use close to the same weight of Coolgardie PCCP as you would regular ice. Indicatively, a 15 to 1 ratio of the internal volume of the container to the amount of Coolgardie PCCP used. Best results are achieved by chilling food/drinks beforehand, stacking contents to minimise spare space, placing at least one Coolgardie PCCP on the bottom of the container and not constantly opening the container.
